Difference between cornstarch and cornflour

Hey Guys,

We are so innocent as kids and we never want to know that our beliefs can be wrong:P

My whole childhood, I believed that both of these powders are the same, kept on substituting them for each other and it resulted in major major disasters but again, I was always convinced that nothing was wrong in the process! Well, I was wrong!

To ensure that you guys don’t make such a mistake, let’s learn about the difference between cornstarch and corn flour. A lot of us have been substituting one for another but guys, they are not the same! We often replace them with each other but results are often disastrous

Both cornflour and cornstarch are made from corn.

Corn flour is the result of grinding entire corn kernels into a fine powder. Therefore, it contains protein, fiber starch, and the vitamins and minerals found in whole corn. It’s typically a little yellow in color.

On the other hand, cornstarch is more refined and made by removing the protein and fiber of the corn kernel, leaving only the starchy center called the endosperm. This is then processed into a white powder

A 1/4th cup of cornstarch has 120 calories and 28 g of carbs whereas 1/4th cup of cornflour has 110 calories, 3 grams protein, 1.5 gram fats and 22 grams of carbs along with 2 grams of fiber.

In addition to providing more fiber and protein, cornflour contains B vitamin, iron, potassium, magnesium, and several other nutrients

Cornstarch offers no B vitamins and much smaller amounts of other nutrients, compared with corn flour.
